Welcome to my world of quizzing, games and pop culture.
Hi there, I’m Mark Hughes: a question writer, Assistant Producer, researcher, producer and lifelong trivia obsessive. Over the past few years, I’ve worked across a range of quiz, games, comedy, reality and entertainment shows for BBC, ITV and Netflix, helping create everything from questions and puzzles to games, formats, comedy rounds and studio material.
My credits include The Finish Line, The 1% Club, Tipping Point, The Weakest Link, Riddiculous, Jeopardy! UK and Australia, Wheel of Fortune, Alan Carr’s Picture Slam, Bridge of Lies, Fastest Finger First, The Tournament and Lightning. More recently, I worked as a Games AP on Simon Says, a major new Netflix reality series filmed on location in Ireland.
I’m also the creator and producer of Hot Takes, a comedy panel show for BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds, which I developed from an original idea through to pilot and then a full commissioned series. Beyond broadcast TV and radio, I created and hosted Big Nerd Pub Quiz, a YouTube quiz channel launched during lockdown, which grew to over 5,000 subscribers and more than 250,000 views.
Before moving into television, I worked across media, PR, journalism, live music, the arts and law, which probably explains the slightly strange mix of interests that led me here in the first place. I’ve appeared on Sky One’s King of the Nerds, been a finalist on Channel 4’s 15 to 1, and won BBC Two’s Lightning before being offered my first professional question-writing credit on the show.
